Cor's Tour du Canada Adventure 2005
July 7 - Day 13
Banff

Previous Day - - Back to Daily Log - - Next Day

Riding from Field to Banff along the #1, the out of commission Great Divide Highway(closed road from Kicking Horse Pass to Lake Louise) and the Bow Valley Parkway. Good thunderstorm last night echoed off the mountains nicely. At 3:00AM, nature called and the stars were out against the mountain back drop. Of course it started with the climb over the pass and by the Spiral Tunnels where trains do corkscrews in the mountains to get up over this height of land. Then it was on to the closed Great Divide Highway which was nice for us cyclists to ride with no traffic. Vehicles can no longer get to this landmark which explains how water at the Great Divide flows on the one side down to the Pacific Ocean and on the other, down to Hudson Bay. This is also the border between BC and Alberta. We continued along this to Lake Louise which avoided the big climb from the highway as well. Too many tourists at the lake for me to enjoy it so just took some shots and left. Then is was the Bow Valley Parkway to Banff. Mostly good weather but one light shower and getting very cold at the Great Divide (1720ms). The campsite is great tonight with beautiful scenery all day. There are no more passes to climb, the mountains are done although we get to enjoy them tomorrow as we exit ino the foothills of the Rockies.

Scenic shots along the route.
