Cor's Tour du Canada Adventure 2005
July 8 - Day 14
Cochrane

Riding from Banff to Cochrane along the #1 and the 1A. Coldest morning yet in my opinion, but it warmed up very quickly as the sun came out and became a very hot day. Did drop in elevation a fair bit today but maybe I was expecting too easy a ride and I found the last 20kms a bit trying but that is my own fault for pushing up over 45kms/hr at the beginning of the ride when there was a bit of a tail wind. Most of the day had a nice 20 to 30 km/hr tailwind but as we headed more directly east, the wind came a bit more straight out of the south, creating a fair crosswind. The camp is a bit of a luxury tonight as it has power and water at every site, nice grass to put the tents on, and the truck close to all our sites. Some nights there is only electricity for the truck and with a few of us travelling with laptops and other items that need recharging, it can be a bit of a trick trying to find a free outlet to use. It seems to be a common thing to have to pay for showers which I have never done before when staying at campgrounds. Some are only a quarter but at least two now have been a whole dollar for a six minute shower. The national parks were good in this regard, they both were free, the water was at least warm if not hot, and there was more than one shower stall for the 25 men in the group. The mountains are now officially behind us, tomorrow we still have a half day of riding in the foothills as we enter the Prairies as well as our first century(100 mile) ride of the trip. Must remember to pace myself for that ride.
View as I was packing up the tent this morning.
Last mountain we rode by.
Mountains retreating in the distance as we hit longer, straighter roads.
View over Ghost Lake looking back at the mountains.
Dr. Bob passing some bison.
