Cor's Tour du Canada Adventure 2005
July 4 - Day 10
The Roger's Pass and Goloden
Previous Day - - Back to Daily Log - - Next Day
Ride today was along the Trans Canada to Golden over the Roger's Pass. The day started off slowly with a steady climb all the way up to the Roger's Pass, 650ms above our campground. This was over 35kms so it was not too bad, the steepest grade being just before the pass but still not too bad. Average speed going up was 14km/hr. The other side of the pass was a quick downhill over the next 20kms as we went through numerous snow sheds quite often coasting at over 50km/hr, maxing out at 62km/hr at one point when I could take the middle of the road due to no traffic. A lot of time was spent applying brake pressure so I was happy I had the disc brakes and did not have to worry about overheating. After this was another long steady climb with some minorly steep sections but I was prepared, ate and drank lots, so ended the day feeling well. The only downside again was the large volume of traffic on the Highway but there really is only a couple of choices to get through the mountains and so it must be. As I am typing this the mosquitoes are being a real pest, had a few last night and tonight they are worse. Wait till we get to prairies and northern Ontario and I would be happy to have so few.
