Cor's Tour du Canada Adventure 2005
September 2 - Day 70
Ferry Ride
Previous Day - - Back to Daily Log - - Next Day
We did wake up to a dry morning but everything was quite wet from dew and the previous nights rain. We did have the advantage of time this morning to air things out before packing so most of my stuff was 90% dry by the time it was sealed away for the next couple of days. Just a short ride to the ferry today meant looking for a second breakfast in the latter part of the morning before heading to the terminal where we found out a distress hoax had delayed our ferry and we would be boarding late. The big 5 ton truck is left behind here and all our gear is in the tour companies pick-up(Velo 1) and trailer and 26 of the bikes are secured to the tops of these. 7 of the riders are given special boarding passes to go on with their bikes. A second delay due to mechanical problems means we are leaving 3 hours behind schedule creating only a slight concern for me since it is a 140 km ride scheduled for the next day and the days are getting shorter. We have reserved reclining lounge chairs grouped together on the ferry but the close quarters and damp smelly shoes take their toll on me and I move to the movie lounge just forward of this area to try and fall asleep while watching the movies that are playing. It does not work and I only get 45 minutes of sleep over the whole night. On when of my excursions into the nights fresh air I get out the GPS to see how much the ferry is rocking. The numbers go up and down between 18 and 22 meters above sea level, usually staying in the 19 to 21 range so there is a good 3 meter up and down sideways roll that does have some of the riders not feeling well. Of course with only 45 minutes of sleep the two days blend together but for Journal purposes, this will continue tomorrow.
Waking up to clear skies after the final night of camping.
I had a get a picture of this. One of the most awkward toilets I have ever had to sit on. The wall in front of it comes just about right up the the middle of it and you have to sit on it at a 45 degree angle or more. This was in the restaurant a group of us had our second breakfast or first lunch in.
Loading Velo 1 with the bikes and ferry shots.
This gull flew right in front of the lens while I was trying to get shots of Velo 1 loading.
