A hard riding day with a very unfriendly restauarant at Montreal River. It was not just my experience, many of the riders were treated poorly there but it was one of the only pit stops for the day so I gave them my money anyways. I only ended up buying snacks since they did not want to seem to give us menus or tell what was on the menu even though people that came in while we were eating snacks were getting served. Oh well. Not a relaxing day on the busy highway with all the hills, heat, humidy, headwinds and mishaps for some. One of our group was forced off the road by canoes that came loose off of a passing truck and fell unto the road beside him. He ended up going down the embankment and taking a spill, fortunately without serious injury although he did end up not riding for the rest of todays or the following days ride due to needing a new helmet. Another rider had a more humerous mishap and fortunately didn't seem injured. He was riding along and went around a "Men at Work" sign that had been placed along the shoulder and then put his head down for the hill climb with the headwind and did not see the following sign and ran right smack into the middle of it. For myself, just another tiring day. Did find a nice secluded stretch of shoreline along the way and took a nice break and put my feet in the water. About 20kms from camp the rain started coming down and with lightning all around and no shelter so it was either hide in the tall trees along the road or keep riding. I did start with the first but when the lightning came closer, I opted for the road thinking it was not all that safe in the forest either. At least it was hot.
