Today I surpassed the first 1000kms I will be riding this year.
There have been days over this training whether I questioned if I made the right decision for this summer. Why the torture? Will I be able to complete the distances? I guess that is why we do the training. Besides doing the first thousand kilometers today, I also completed my first full century ride as well. This ride let me know I can do this and do it comfortably and enjoyably. It may not have been a really hard day, the weather was cool so no overheating and the winds were calm and the sky was mostly clear. But I enjoyed the ride for the most part. Most of the route was over new territory so it was kept interesting which took away from the monotony of the regular training. I could imagine myself on the Tour today.

Lessons learned so far:
Don't push too hard if doing a long ride.
Unclip before coming to a complete stop.
An ibuprofen of two helps make the day more comfortable.
Change the ride to keep it interesting.
I prefer calm days to days where I may have a nice tailwind but will have to the headwind at turn around.
A good snack or two, water, some gatorade and a half hour rest can really revitalize.
