Today was a challenge ride so not feeling creative at all in the photography department. I was not planning to do more than just go to Alliston today and then ride on to Darlington on the rest day to visit family and take my rest when everyone else was riding to Darlington. The driver misunderstood and thought I was planning to ride further today and when I thought about it, I knew the distance was too long (aroung 250kms) but thought I would see what the time was when I was in Alliston. I first did not do the recommended route, shaving 45kms off the day by just heading the most direct route to Alliston. Only a very short section was bad and even though it was quite busy, it was still better than most of the roads we had in Northern Ontario as well as less big trucks. The morning started slow with a bit of a crosswind combined with a general climb of 300ms onto the escarpment. I really thought it would just end up being a trip only to Alliston but then I turned east and the wind became a full tailwind and I ended up there just shortly after 2:00 and stopped at the DQ for a burger and Brownie Earthquake. Refreshed and refueled I headed to camp and looked at the maps and it looked reasonable for me to get within 50kms before dark. I called up the family and they agreed to come out when it became dark. I was able to put another 83kms into the day for a total of 207kms and get about 10kms past Uxbridge before it became to dark to continue riding. It was then a nice car ride to my sisters' house, quick soup and sandwich, shower, little bit of conversation and off to bed. I am sure the adrenalin of knowing I would be visiting family was half of what kept me going and feeling good. I will return to the pick up spot in 2 days to continue the rest of the trip to Darlington and still be riding every inch across Canada.
Katharine, who had joined near Winnipeg, is leaving after today so made sure I had a picture of her. Sitting here with Tristan eating breakfast.
Just had to get that odometer when it hit the 200, most probably will never see that again on a one day trip.
