Cor's Tour du Canada Adventure 2005
July 27 - Day 33
Thunder Bay

Coldest morning yet, had to find my winter gloves just to keep my fingers warm while eating breakfast. As the sun went higher in the sky, the air warmed quickly and just a few kilometers from camp we were removing the top layer of clothing. Fairly hilly ride to start and generally hilly for most of the ride except the last 30kms. In general we dropped a good 200 meters in elevation going into Thunder Bay and we are at around 200 meters above sea level. We still have more than half the ride to go but most of our base riding will be at this elevation or lower since we are pretty much riding along the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence seaway from now on. Still will be days with lots of climbing though. At one of our breaks today we entered a convenience store to buy some snacks. The lady behind the counter asked how many more there were of us since I guess a lot of us had stopped in to buy things throughout the morning. Our group was at the end so I said we were it and she was happy because she was tired of having to get up and down to make sales to people.??!? Oh well, she won't have to get up for me anymore. Kakabeka Falls was beautiful, as you will see below, but while we were stopped here a small thunder shower was passing overhead and made us take shelter for a good half hour while the worst came down. Another short break at a gas station and the storm was passed and we were only sprinkled on for the rest of the ride. As it was, we did not arrive at Lakehead University for our first official indoor night of the trip (we still set up our tents in the arena at Neudorf) around 9:30 Eastern Time (8:30 Central in the time zone we just left) and a few of the other riders were worried about us. Our little group just wanted to take it easy and enjoy the food break when we took it. Even though the ride was long, I still arrived at the finish with lots of energy and feeling good but still looking forward to a rest day.
